The word “new” is exciting! Everyone loves getting something new. A new car, a new job, or even a new boss.
In May, Cedarhurst of Collinsville got some very exciting news that we would be getting a new executive director. Matt Whitlock has been with us for a few months now, and the newness is still very exciting! He is an experienced executive director who is also a certified RN. We are so lucky to have him on board and cannot wait to see what is to come from him in the future months. We are all just overjoyed by the dedication and experience that he has brought to our community. From a new list of exciting activities, to decorations and interior design, Matt has enlightened us with his way of doing things, and we welcome it with open arms.
One of the great things that Matt has brought to this community is his sense of involvement with the residents and employees. He hosts weekly meetings for the management team to get together and discuss ideas, problems and most importantly, solutions. Our sense of community here has grown dramatically with his encouraging words and kindness. One of the best improvements Matt has made is the involvement between the executive direction and our residents. He loves knowing about their day-to-day life events, and spends his lunch time in the dining room with the residents to get to know them better. He listens to help solve problems, and offers creative solutions. He also hosts a monthly town hall meeting with the residents so they can voice their opinion on how things are going. He makes sure everyone gives a compliment along with a complaint to keep the morale up! He has introduced new bingo games and a new prize systems to make something we do frequently exciting every time.
Another amazing addition to our routine is the quilting club. Matt recently started quilting and wanted to bring his new hobby to our community. He has started making a quilt with the ladies and it has gone over very well. Several of the women here used to quilt regularly and were so excited to get back to being involved in that activity. They are currently working on a quilt that will be raffled off to help raise money for the Alzheimer’s Association. They all sit and work the quilt for hours, talking and laughing together and sharing stories. It is amazing to watch and be a part of.
Matt has been a great addition to the Cedarhurst of Collinsville community. He has introduced many things to us that we are all so excited about. We look forward to the months ahead to see what else he has in store or us. We rest assured knowing that the “newness” may eventually wear off, but with Matt, the excitement, passion, dedication and lasting impression that he has made on all of us and the community will live on for years to come!
